My name is Kathryn Leahy and I’m an alumna of the University of South Florida. I have my B.A. in mass communications with a focus in public relations. The PR field has interested me ever since seeing Samantha Jones on Sex and the City and since then has seemed more and more like the right career path for me.

I have a long history in theatre and that has helped me immensely in my public relations schooling and learning. Much of public relations is about just what the name implies- relating to the public and being that person who can talk to the public about a company and its goings-on.

My job, performing in the Critter Castaways show at Busch Gardens, is a great introduction into the PR realm. Most people would never guess, but I have done a lot of crisis management at the show. When an animal flies off or runs away, it’s our job to give the correct information out to the guests who might ask about the animal without worrying them or having them fear for the animal’s safety.

This path that I have chosen is going to be a long and rocky one, but I still think that it was the best choice I have made for myself. I can’t imagine doing anything more similar to who I am than public relations. Here’s to the PR industry and let’s hope they’re ready for me! Cheers!
